Week Seven: Contain Yourself

This section was rather short and to the point, basically we never get to the root of the issue.  The root of the issue is stuff.  We have too much stuff, and we just try to find pretty ways to organize this stuff.  So as I continue to pair down to the essentials I will be moving closer and closer to me end goal of a more organized life.

The Way:

In our consumerist society, the inclination is to purchase to make things better when more purchasing actually creates disorganization   Instead of increasing your storage, decrease your stuff.

Daily Practices:

Get familiarity with your things.  A lot of organizing schools of thought emphasize flipping hangers when an item is worn and other cleaver tricks to help us remember what we really use.  Can you begin the process of knowing what you have by putting your items together in categories and determining what you need to live on a daily basis? if you have too many unrecognizable items, storing is not your solution, purging is.

Hone your editing skills daily.  If you keep putting on the same ill fitting sweater hoping that somehow the shape will now flatter you, let it go.  Items like this are not worth keeping, much less storing.
